There are a number of pieces of equipment needed to complete a delightful home theater that everyone will enjoy. You will want to consider the following for you personalized home theater room:

HD Display

Your HD display can be either a flat-panel HDTV or a front projector. In fact, some home theaters have both, an LCD or plasma for everyday viewing, along with a projector and a drop-down screen to use on movie nights. The flat screen is usually mounted on the wall on the front of the room. The projector is an entirely different story; it needs distance from its separately mounted screen and is often mounted from the ceiling or on a shelf in the middle or back of the room.

Projection Screen

There are several types of projector screens. In many home theaters, retractable screens drop down from the ceiling, however some homeowners choose to have the screen installed to come up from the floor. Fixed screens maybe tacked to a wall or supported by a stand. Because screens vary in their reflectivity, they need to be carefully matched to the installation based on several different factors, including the projector’s brightness with 2D and 3D content, the amount of ambient light anticipated during viewing and certainly your own personal taste.

Component Rack

Every home theater room has an established place where the equipment, other than the projector and speakers, is stored. It may be a closet or an exposed shelving unit. It can be a regular audio rack or a professional-style A/V storage system designed to cool the equipment using convection or fan cooling.

Source Components

Most home theaters include a Blu-Ray player, as that is considered to be the highest quality video source available today. Most likely, you will also have a cable or satellite box, along with a separate media receiver to stream content from Pandora, Netflix, Vudu, or other services if they are not already available through your other components. Depending on your preferences, you may also need additional audio components such as a turntable or CD player.

A/V Receiver

Since the digital audio soundtracks from your various equipment must be decoded and amplified for playback through your speakers, an A/V receiver is a must have component. A/V receivers today will switch easily among your components. High-performance installations, however, sometimes include a separate surround processor and power amplifier, to perform these functions.

Putting together the right speaker system for your home theater takes planning, not only to match the requirements of your A/V receiver, but also for the placement of the speakers within the room to create the best sound possible. You may need to experiment with the speaker placements to get just the right sound. Consider the following:

Front Left/Right Speakers

The primary left/right speaker pair is leftover from the early days of stereo sound. In most movie soundtracks, these speakers are used to reproduce background music and special effects; any recorded dialogue is handled by the center channel. The front left/right speaker pair is usually set in position to the left and right of the screen.

Center Channel Speaker

With most soundtracks (TV and film) and music discs, dialogue and primary vocals are handled by the center channel speaker. The purpose of the center channel speaker is to lock dialogue firmly to the screen for all listeners – no matter where they are seated. Most often, in order to get the best sound effect, the center channel speaker is placed above or below the screen.

Surround Speakers

Surround sound enhances the perception of sound and space, using a listener’s ability to identify the location or origin of a detected sound in direction and distance. In essence, surround sound allows the listener to hear sounds from a 360 degree radius around his/her seat. In a home theater setting, the surround speakers are typically positioned on the side walls just behind the primary seating area and above a listener’s ear level.

Sub-woofer

The “point one” in a 5.1 channel system is called the sub-woofer and it is a dedicated speaker that supplements the music and surround effects with deep bass energy. A sub-woofer can be placed almost anywhere in the room, but it is usually placed in the front area of the home home theater. Some homeowners choose to use several sub-woofers to help even out the overall bass response.

In addition to the sound and sight components for a home theater system, you will want to also consider the following in the planning stages of this home entertainment project:

Seating

The seating in your home theater can be as simple as a cozy couch or it can include several luxurious recliners. Comfortable viewing and design considerations should be the only things you need to think about!

Lighting

Home theaters need a certain amount of lighting, however these rooms will certainly benefit from careful placement of any lighting fixtures, both to create mood and to ensure a safe viewing environment. You will need to choose lighting for the entryway, and you may want to consider dimming wall sconces that can be controlled using a remote control anywhere in the viewing area.

While planning the perfect home theater entertainment area for your home takes a little research and planning, the completed project will be an enjoyable place for you and your family for many years to come!

If you would prefer a simpler, less expensive route, you might consider buying a Home Theater in a Box System.

A Home Theater in a Box has everything you need to bring beautiful sound and an awesome picture to your home theater. Home Theaters in a Box include the certainty that each component of your home theater is compatible with its counterparts, not to mention the convenience of having all the parts in one package.

The Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System HTS3306/F7 stands out with its performance and value, and it is sleek, trendy and on the leading edge of home-entertainment technology. This particular home theater system has its own integrated Blu-ray player, and it is designed to let you stream music, movies, and television right from the internet. It has a clear high-definition picture, along with five speakers and a subwoofer the produce top quality surround sound.

In today’s world, everyone is looking for high-definition pictures, and this Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System provides sharp, clear HD images for everything presented in that standard. Standard-definition content on media such as DVDs and some broadcast channels, however, doesn’t take advantage of all the pixels on a high-definition monitor or television. To handle this issue, the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System uses 1080p “upconversion” technology. This feature scales standard-definition images into a high-definition signal that your HD television or monitor recognizes and displays at its full capacity.

The Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System’s integrated player plays Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs, as well as television shows, movies, music and videos that are stored online or in the cloud. This system is capable of connecting to the internet and streaming content from services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Pandora and many more, directly through the system’s AV receiver to your screen and through your speakers. The ability to do this puts the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System on the top of current entertainment technology.

A sharp, clear high-definition image has minimal entertainment value without a full and vibrant surround sound to go along with it. This home theater system offers five top notch speakers and a subwoofer that provide a robust sound quality that is unmatched by most other systems.

The speakers included in this home theater in a box system consist of two front, one center, and two satellite speakers, along with the sub-woofer. The AV receiver utilizes a small microphone that detects where you place each speaker in any room. This particular technology optimizes the surround sound for any speaker placement in your home.

These days, HDMI has become the must-have connection feature for any HD machine. The back panel of the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System has such a port. Analog ports found on the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System’s connectivity array include component, composite and coaxial. These analog connections allow you to connect devices that utilize these standards as well. The Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System also has ports specifically designed for devices that connect via USB. This means you can insert a thumb drive or an external hard drive into this home theater system and play content directly from its flash memory.

This home theater in a box system also has full wireless capability. The ability to connect the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System to a wireless network means that you don’t have to be physically wired to an internet connection to stream content from online sources.

Another plus is the fact that the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System is fully compliant with iOS devices. The system has a special port for connecting iPhones, iPods and iPads. Therefore, you can play any content on those devices right on the system’s HD screen. This is especially convenient for playing movies and music you have synced from iTunes to your iOS device.

All-in-all, the Philips Blu-ray Home Theater System is a solid performer, providing quality features at a most reasonable price. If you are looking for a Home Theater in a Box for your home, this is one you should definitely consider!

The Sony BDP-S790 3D Blu-ray player is sleek and solidly made, yet smaller than most Blu-Ray devices. Looking at the back side of this player, there are many outputs available, including dual HDMI outputs and an air exhaust grill. This is the first Sony machine to offer twin HDMI outputs which helps owners of older surround sound amps, incompatible with 3D signals, to bypass them for picture and just feed in the sound. The rear panel also has optical and coaxial audio outputs, a Composite video output, an Ethernet port for a wired connection to a home network, and an input to use for integrated control of the player with a Sony compatible TV or amplifier. And finally, there are two USB ports, one on the back panel and another on the front of the box.

This Blu-ray player comes equipped with wireless connectivity, therefore there are no restrictions as to where it should be placed to pick up the home network. Activating the player’s Wi-Fi is not automatic, so it does require providing details about the home network (such as the network’s name and password) on a menu screen.

The remote control is slightly shorter than most models that have become standard today, and it has a slightly grooved back for easy gripping. The controls are fairly standard in that the center section and the remote’s bottom section provides direct control over an inserted disc. The top section has a numeric pad, power and input buttons, so that it can be used to control a compatible SonyTV. Another neat feature on the remote control is the dedicated Netflix button.

For those who are tied to their smart phones, Sony has a Media Remote app that is also easy to use. It is available for both iOS and Android devices, and it gives the user complete control of the machine, from turning it on to surfing the web. The apps work quite nicely; by swiping the main screen you get a choice of control menus, such as one for general playback, and another to use while you navigate the menus on the player and on discs. The controls are accurate and very responsive.

While the control features are worth initial consideration, the sight and sound qualities, along with pricing, are what consumers are most interested in when selecting equipment for their home theater experience. With Sony’s BDP-S790, most people describe the sight and sound as pretty spectacular. Images are simply vibrant; whites are brilliant and blacks are are rich and deep, with plenty of visible image detail.

When the 3D Blu-ray is turned on, the results are absolutely captivating. The sense of depth in the 3D images is quite impressive, truly immersing each viewer into the on-screen action.

This Sony Blu-ray player uses the Xross Media Bar navigation menu that was first pioneered on the Sony PlayStation 3. The basic setup screens take just a few minutes to work through, although you can tweak such features as picture quality, contrast at a later time. There is also a special “party mode” that is activated in the Audio settings, which will stream music to any/all Sony-compatible wireless speakers simultaneously. For the photographers in the family, there is a photo option, allowing viewers to control how slide shows are presented. The BDP-S790 can also play music from a USB drive plugged into one of the two available USB ports – an easy way to add sound to a picture presentation.

You will find that the BDP-S790 has an incredibly large variety of streaming services available. In addition to Netflix, you can find Amazon VOD (including free streaming for Prime members), Vudu, Flixster, Hulu Plus, CinemaNow, NHL Network, and even YouTube. On the audio side, there is Pandora and Slacker, and for those who are tied to social media, Skype and Facebook are also available. For anyone who does not like to use a screen-based keyboard, the BDP-S790 supports a wired or wireless USB keyboard plugged into the front USB jack.

If you are interested in Skype video/audio calls, you can do so by connecting a webcam through the USB port. In is important to note, however, that you will need an active Skype account to do so. Sony’s Entertainment Center portal can also be accessed as well as Sony-specific special features.

All-in-all, the Sony BDP-S790 is a superb Blu-ray player. You can’t go wrong adding this equipment to your home entertainment system. It has so many great features and such an excellent audio and picture performance that everyone in your home is sure to enjoy it. Sony has definitely has a winner on its hands with the BDP-S790.

A home theater installation can turn a normal, everyday room into a sophisticated room where all of the family will want to share movies, favorite television shows, music and more.

When making a home theater purchase, one of the things you should consider is whether you want to install it yourself or hire a professional. For some people, this decision is more difficult than making up their minds about what size LCD TV to pick, or what type of speakers to use.

One of the biggest benefits of tackling this project on your own is the cost savings . You will save a bundle on the expense of hiring someone to come into your home to do the installation. The biggest trade-off is your time. Before you begin this fairly large project, be sure to do all of the necessary research. There are plenty of “how-to” guides on the Internet regarding installation techniques, correct speaker placement, etc. Depending on the size of the project, the installation of a complete system could take days for a person who does not have prior experience.

If you decide to hire a professional home theater installer, their knowledge and experience can be incredibly valuable; they can assist you in many ways, including the selection of products that will work best in your room. They can offer suggestions to optimize your theater experience, based on your space and the equipment that you choose. In addition, the time frame for completing an installation project will also be much quicker; you will not have to spend so much time researching the different components for a home theater on your own. A professional home installation specialist can offer sound advice regarding what will work best for your expectations and situation.

Home theater installers will be able to set up your equipment and maximize performance because they know the correct settings for your particular room environment. They will take many things into consideration, such as room acoustics and ambient light. Most home theater installation experts will create a plan based on available space, giving suggestions for the optimal placement of equipment. If you are looking for a multiple-room installation, they will offer additional options in order to ensure that your home theater experience meets your expectations.

A big factor for a home theater system is the audio piece. Depending on your personal requirements and budget, you could choose from a wide selection of audio equipment ranging from single to dual amplifiers, surround sound speakers, multi-channel audio output systems, and much more. Installing different types of audio counterparts can be a rather complicated job, therefore many home-owners choose to hire professional home theater installers to make sure there are no complications with incorrect placement or wiring.

Another big area for major decisions is determining what size or type of TV to use. A professional home theater installation specialist can help you determine your TV options, helping you choose between a plasma screen and a projector/screen set, after asking you about your personal preferences. For instance, plasma screens offer a clear, vivid picture, which is best in a dark atmosphere, while projector/screen combination sets offer a high quality picture in full light, indirect light, or the dark. Your home theater installation specialist can help you analyze your personal expectations so you can decide which is the best option for you and your family.

Earlier this year, Sharp took the 80-inch class TV to a new dimension with the launch of the new LC-80LE844U. This 80 inch TV provides a 111% larger viewing area than a 55” screen. Can you imagine watching a football game or a favorite movie with that much viewing area in the comfort of your home?

“As the number one market share leader in the large screen television market, we’re excited to provide consumers with more choices, better designs and innovative features,” says John Herrington, president of Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America. “It’s clear that consumers are looking for the biggest television experience coupled with the highest picture quality possible.”

The 80-inch Sharp AQUOS, designed to meet those customer expectations, is a 3D-capable model that uses an updated version of Sharp’s four-color Quattron technology called Quad Pixel Plus 2. With the addition of Quad Pixel Plus 2 and 3D depth enhancer, the picture features smoother color transitions and a much more engaging 3D viewing experience. Sharp has also pioneered a technique to add a yellow subpixel to the traditional RGB pixel structure, so AQUOS® Quattron™ LED TVs have opened up a whole new world of never-before-seen colors, from deeper blues and brighter reds to the purest golds. In addition, this top of the line TV has many other great features including a full-array LED backlight, 240Hz technology, and built-in Wi-Fi. When needed, owners can get help with set-up, trouble-shooting, calibration, and even remote diagnosis through the AQUOS Advantage Live service that connects owners to a technician.

Potential owners might be worried about the cost of energy with a monster TV such as the 80-inch LC-80LE844U. Despite its huge size, this is an EnergyStar-compliant TV that is expected to use only $22 worth of electricity per year. It is a TV powerhouse that is well worth the energy cost.

This 80-inch model of the Sharp AQUOS has an updated Smart Central TV interface that is more intuitive, providing easier access to online content and Web browsing. With built-in Wi-Fi and the SmartCentral user interface, users have access to download popular apps or browse the Internet – all without disrupting what they are watching. Membership and/or additional fees may apply, however. Users like having the ability to customize their experience; personalized settings, personal apps, and a wide range of wallpapers are available. In addition, there are two viewing formats, full screen or dock.

Another available new feature, called Beamzit, is a free app that lets you beam photos, music, and video to a Wi-Fi enabled AQUOS T from an iOS or Android smart phone or tablet.

If you are looking for an awesome television experience in your home, this is the TV for you.

It’s certainly possible to mount a flat screen television on a stand or atop an entertainment center and enjoy fantastic viewing, but why take up floor or shelf space when you can mount it on the wall? Unfortunately, many people baulk at attempting to wall mount a large flat screen television. They have visions of their expensive pride and joy falling off during a crucial moment of the big game, causing irreparable damage to the TV and anyone unfortunate enough to be sitting nearby. But fear not — flat screen televisions are light enough and slim enough to sit comfortably on a wall mount, and despite your misgivings, it is actually very easy to wall mount a large flat screen television correctly. In fact, mounting a flat screen television on the wall is well within the capabilities of most people.

How To Mount A Flat Screen Television Correctly

First, consider where you want to mount the television. Think about where you are likely to sit while watching TV and whether ambient light from nearby windows is going to be a problem. Ideally, the TV should also be mounted on a solid wall, although you can work around this particular issue, as we will discuss later. Lastly, check how heavy your television is to ensure you purchase a wall mount capable of supporting the weight of your TV comfortably.

What Equipment Do I Need To Mount A Flat Screen Television On The Wall?

A wall mounting kit is necessary for hanging a flat screen television on the wall. It does not necessarily need to be specifically designed for your model of television, but you need to make sure the mount fits both the TV and the type of wall where you intend on positioning the TV. If in doubt, check with your manufacturer to determine which type of mounting kit is suitable. You will also need a heavy-duty screwdriver, an electric drill, a level, and the appropriate fittings for your wall.

Wall mounting kits for flat screen televisions come in two parts: a bracket is fixed to the wall and a secondary piece attaches to the TV in place of the existing stand. Once you have determined what goes where, you need to assess the type of wall you are dealing with. A solid brick, concrete, or cinder block wall is the best type for mounting a heavy television, but as long as you use the correct parts and attach the mount to the stud rather than directly into the plasterboard, you can securely mount a flat screen television to a hollow wall.

Once you have decided on the optimum position for your TV (and located the solid stud in a hollow wall if applicable), you can begin drilling guide holes for placement. Use the wall-mounted portion of the bracket as your template and mark where you need to insert the screw. It is also a good idea to double check that the wall mount is level at all stages of the process: nothing looks worse than a skewed TV hanging on your living room wall.

The next step involves attaching the second section of the television mount to the back of your flat screen TV. If you are unsure how to do this, read the instruction manual for your TV or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

The final step is to mount your television on to the wall, but before doing this, please check to make sure you are 100% happy that the wall mount bracket is firmly in place. Once you have verified the bracket is solid, enlist the help of at least one other person to help you hang the television (additional assistance may be needed if the television is particularly large). When you have the TV in place, tug it gently to check that it feels secure, then sit back and enjoy the efforts of your handiwork.

The DLA-X30 brings the excitement of 3D and JVC’s renowned D-ILA technology to a wider audience than ever before.

The X30 includes all the performance you’ve come to expect from JVC. It uses three D-ILA devices to project a Full HD 1920 x 1080 image with an amazing black level and 50,000:1 Native Contrast Ratio. “Native” means JVC does not use a dynamic iris, making it possible to reproduce the deepest blacks and vivid peak whites at the same time, for the most impactful images in each and every frame.

All new JVC Procision projectors are 3D enabled, and feature a wide range of 3D enhancements, including improved 3D picture quality and improved 3D functionality.

A 3D I/R Emitter (PK-EM1, sold separately) syncs the projected image with JVC’s Active Shutter 3D Glasses (PK-AG2, sold separately) for a superior 3D experience, no matter what type of screen is used or how the home theater has been configured.

JVC offers impressive installation flexibility with a 2X Optical Zoom featuring motorized focus, zoom and lens shift settings. All new JVC Procision projectors add a Lens Memory function with three memories that allow those settings to be stored for different picture formats.
Basic Components

There are two principal components to a surround sound system: speakers and a receiver.*

Receiver: A receiver is a single component that will receive all of the necessary audio inputs (TV, DVD/Blu-Ray, CD, MP3, etc.) and transfers them to the speakers or outputs. Receivers certainly are a straightforward and affordable solution to home theater audio and surround sound.

Speakers: Speakers, or channels, are the place the sound emanates from, clearly.

* Even though I list speakers and receivers for the two basic components to a surround sound system, they are not the only option. You can purchase preamps or amps for the specific component, but this is generally set aside for top end systems and is more expensive.

Forms of Surround Sound

There are a lot of categories of surround sound, but the preferred systems are 7.1 and 5.1. The numbers are based on the number of speakers or channels which the system uses.

5.1 Surround sound includes Front Left, Front Right, Front Center, Low Frequency (Subwoofer), Back Left and Back Right speakers or channels.

7.1 Surround sound is made up of Front Left, Front Right, Front Center, Low Frequency (Subwoofer), Side Left, Side Right, Back Left and Back Right channels or speakers.

The greater channels or speakers you have, the fuller and richer the sound is going to be.

Positioning the Speakers

5.1 Surround Sound: You normally want a person to be in the center. The speakers ought to be arranged so that they point to the middle of the space, where the listeners generally should be positioned. The center speaker ought to be immediately facing the listener, typically located over or underneath your TV. The front right and front left speakers generally should be placed even distance away from the center speaker. The front right speaker should be at a 30° angle from the center speaker while the left speaker would be -30°. The back right speaker will be at the back of the listener, and at 110° on the very same circle. The back left would be at -110°, equal distance from the source and listener with the back right speaker. The subwoofer or low frequency speaker should generally be located near the center speaker.

7.1 Surround Sound: You will employ the exact same setup as the 5.1, using the following difference. The side left and side right speakers should be at 90° to the center of the room, nonetheless positioned on the same circle. The back left and back right, will be placed at 130° and -130°, respectively.

Hopefully this helps to clarify any issues you may have regarding surround sound. It’s a crucial component to the home theater audio experience and should be a part of your plans when you build a home theater.
